As globalization expands ever faster, can—and should—there be a global graphic design language? “Is the World moving toward Global Design? A comparative analysis of design languages in Germany and the United States.” concludes that, while design trends have to some extent merged over the last century (notably between Europe and the United States), the past is no prologue for the future. While large corporations communicate a certain visual language, local design mustn’t mistake this for a global understanding of the most effective design.
In addition to the analytical work, the practical part of the thesis encompasses a poster series which experiments with cross-and inter-cultural design of local trends from various cultures. The thesis paper itself has been designed accordingly.
